Unto Others

What have we become? Why are people so frightened of each other? Where did our sense of responsibility to community and family become skued?
If someone is in need of help, then cheerfully offer to lend a hand, don't agree to help as long as you get something in return...the satisfaction of giving of yourself to help another in need IS YOUR SOMETHING IN RETURN!
Sometimes we need to help each other ie; I need gas money and you need your dog walked, this is a good trade. What has become obsolete is our ability to reach out to other humans, to wave and smile and say hello, to ask how someone else is doing and hiding behind an email or text message as a valid form of conversing has become the safe acceptable way to love thy neighbor.
We have become solitary beings in a world overrun with our kind. We have forgotten how immensely rewarding interaction can be.
We have imploded as a result of our fear that we might offend another by the way we speak, think, act and we have forgotten how to respect one another without offending one another.
Is it perfectly acceptable to agree to disagree.
The single most important extra curricular activity we can offer our children is an opportunity to be on a debate team.
Debating gives kids a chance to be open to seeing all sides of an issue and to invoke apathy for their own point of view without harm or retribution. It is interaction, it is confrontation, it is healthy and it is ok.
The single most damaging term: Political Correctness.
Now, I am not saying that we should give up our respect for one another or our manners or our dignity, but I am wishing that we would abandon all of our fears of invoking thought in another human being.
It is not ok to hurt someones feeling, but if you do by all means apologize but don't apologize for fear of retribution or lawsuit, apologize because it is the right thing to do.
The  Christian Bible has the Golden Rule verse and the Native Americans have the verse of Walking a mile in my moccasins and there is the whole Karmic whammy, but no matter who said it best it all comes down to this; treating people as you want them to treat you...nothing more nothing less, do so with respect and apathy and dignity, but do this one little simple thing, trust me it will change you for the better.
